The Pokémon TCG Deck Crafter's Collection box with a Meowth ex card on the front, labeled Play Level 2, on a blue grid

The Deck Crafter's Collection lists at $9.99 for 40 cards and a booster pack, and nine of those cards plus the pack were worth $9.20 at October 19 market prices.

It goes on sale October 23, 2026, and it's built for players: one foil Meowth ex and 39 Trainer cards, mostly in sets of four or two, with no Energy and no other Pokémon. Collectors get one sealed pack. Below: the full card list, the price math, our verdict and who should skip it. Our Pokémon TCG products guide has the rest of this fall's boxes.

What's in the Deck Crafter's Collection: 1 Pokémon and 39 Trainers

Pokémon's October product roundup lists "a foil card featuring Meowth ex, 39 tournament-ready Trainer cards, a Deck Crafter's Guide, nine labeled dividers for organizing cards, and a Pokémon TCG booster pack." It gives no price; PokeBeach and ICv2 both put it at $9.99, and both, like TCGplayer's listing, add a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. The card counts come from PokeBeach's list and a Reddit transcription of the side of the box, and the two match.

That's 16 cards in four-copy sets, 22 in two-copy sets and two single copies. The four-copy cards are Boss's Orders, Lillie's Determination, Poké Pad and Ultra Ball. TCGdex lists an English printing with an I or J regulation mark for each of the 17 cards.

What the box doesn't have is a deck. There's no Basic Energy, no Stadium and one Pokémon, so you'd add at least 20 cards, mostly Pokémon and Energy, to reach 60. Mega Signal only helps a Mega Evolution deck, and Rare Candy only helps one with Stage 2 Pokémon.

The price math: the pack and nine cards cover $9.20

We priced what our October 19 readings cover. Meowth ex had a $2.41 TCGplayer market price as Perfect Order's card 062, and Judge, Energy Search and Poké Pad from the same set ran $0.20, $0.23 and $0.22. PokeBeach reports the pack is from Pitch Black, whose booster box had a $181.87 market price that day, or $5.05 a pack. Pokémon's own text only says "a Pokémon TCG booster pack."

Bar chart: Pitch Black pack $5.05, Meowth ex $2.41, four Poké Pad $0.88, two Energy Search $0.46, two Judge $0.40, sum $9.20, sticker $9.99, cheapest presale listing $12.95, last presale sale $13.97, TCGplayer presale market price $16.25Bar chart: Pitch Black pack $5.05, Meowth ex $2.41, four Poké Pad $0.88, two Energy Search $0.46, two Judge $0.40, sum $9.20, sticker $9.99, cheapest presale listing $12.95, last presale sale $13.97, TCGplayer presale market price $16.25 Chart: SetPulls. Those nine cards and the pack add up to $9.20. The other 31 cards, including all eight copies of Boss's Orders and Lillie's Determination, would need to be worth 79 cents together for the box to clear its sticker price, about 2.5 cents a card. We didn't price them, so the sum is a floor and not the box's full value. The 30th Celebration foil versions of Ultra Ball and Switch ran $0.32 and $0.25 on October 19, which suggests the floor is low.

For a collector the pack is a lottery ticket. TCGplayer's Pitch Black count put its Mega Hyper Rare at about 1 in 1,081 packs; our Mega Hyper Rare pull rates piece has the numbers for all six Mega Evolution sets.

The catch is the price you pay before launch. TCGplayer's presale page, read on October 19 at 07:03 UTC with a US shipping address, showed a $16.25 market price, but sales had already slid below it. The most recent was $13.97 on October 17, down from $16.64 on October 13, and the page counted 10 copies sold, from $13.97 to $19.17. The cheapest of 13 listings was $12.95 with free shipping. Buying that cheapest listing costs $3.75 more than the parts we priced and $2.96 more than sticker; paying the last sale's $13.97 costs $4.77 and $3.98 more.

Our verdict: buy the Deck Crafter's Collection at sticker, not at presale

Buy it at $9.99 if you play or plan to, and skip the presale copies. At sticker, the pack, the Meowth ex and eight cheap staples cover nearly all of the price, and the four-copy sets of Boss's Orders, Lillie's Determination, Poké Pad and Ultra Ball are, in our view, the part a new deck needs most. TCGplayer gives its presale copies an estimated ship date of October 23, the day the box goes on sale, so the $12.95 cheapest listing, or a copy at the $13.97 last-sale price, gets you the box no sooner and costs $2.96 or $3.98 more.

What would change our mind

If presale listings fall to near sticker before October 23, the skip-the-presale half of this call goes away. If the pack turns out not to be Pitch Black, the $9.20 floor moves with it.

Who should buy the Deck Crafter's Collection, and who should skip it

New players are the clearest fit, in our reading. In the r/pkmntcg thread on the reveal, u/serioustransition11 (16 points) said the earlier Trainer's Toolkits "were bad products even for new players because they did not include playsets and featured a bunch of ultra-niche or even unplayable junk while missing critical staples." After the card list came out, u/zellisgoatbond (7 points) said this box fixes that:

"they've really focused on getting playsets of key staples rather than trying to throw in 1 or 2 of everything." The table backs that up: 16 of the 39 Trainers come in four-copy sets.

Returning players who already own these staples get one pack and one Meowth ex out of it. If that's all you'd use, the Meowth ex single was $2.41 on October 19.

Collectors get one pack in a box built for decks. u/sellingham62 (4 points) didn't expect scalpers to bother back in August: "market price on pitch black is down to 7 and meowth is 2." Our October 19 reading works out to $5.05 a pack bought by the box. The labeled dividers fit a storage box; our guide to storing Pokémon cards covers the sleeves and boxes around them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Meowth ex in the Deck Crafter's Collection a new card?

PokeBeach calls it a reprint, and the box art shows the same 170 HP and Last-Ditch Catch Ability as Perfect Order's Meowth ex, which had a $2.41 market price on October 19, 2026. Whether the box copy carries a new set symbol or stamp isn't visible in the images we could read.

Should you buy two Deck Crafter's Collections?

Only if you need four copies of the two-copy cards, such as Dawn, Hilda and Rare Candy. Two boxes give four of each of those, two Meowth ex and eight each of the four-copy cards, four more than a deck can use. If you can buy singles easily, one box already covers the four-copy staples.
