Pokemon Cards at MSRP: Store Rules Before Delta Reign
Every store's rules for a turn at the shelf, and the price each one charged on October 16. Of the big stores we read, only Best Buy listed the nine-pack Delta Reign box at list, and it wasn't selling yet.

Pokemon cards at MSRP are scarce for Delta Reign: of the big stores we read on October 16, only Best Buy listed the Elite Trainer Box at $49.99. Pokémon Center's preorders sold out within hours on September 30, so if you still want a box at list, here's how each store hands out its stock and what it charged.
| Store | How you get a turn | Limit | Price we saw | Source, read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best Buy | Not on sale yet; flagged high demand, with a reservation process | Not shown in its search results | Delta Reign ETB at list, "Coming Soon" | Best Buy search results, Oct 16 |
| Pokémon Center | Preorders sold out Sept 30; the queue on restocks, Invite Only emails | 2 ETB, 1 Booster Bundle, 1 Booster Box per US customer, as reported | Its 11-pack ETB, $59.99 on the distributor list; its product pages blocked us | Bill's Archive and The Lab TCG (price, limits via PokeBeach); Pokémon Center Support (rules), Oct 16 |
| Target | Online and shelf stock, no queue | 1, in Target's product data | Delta Reign ETB $59.99, out of stock, can't be returned | Target.com, Oct 16 |
| Walmart | Hour-long drawing windows | Not stated on the drawing page | 30th Celebration bundles: two over list, one under | Walmart drawing page, Oct 16 |
| Amazon | Request Invitation button, then a timer | One request per item | 30th Celebration ETB $159.99 | Amazon help page, Oct 16; Mashable, Oct 15 |
| GameStop | Preorder online or in store | A per-account cap, number not shown | Delta Reign ETB $89.99, $85.49 for Pro members | GameStop.com, Oct 16 |
| Costco | No Pokémon card listing came up | None to read | Nothing to price | Costco.com search, Oct 16 |
| Local game store | Lottery tickets, prerelease events | The store's own | One 30th ETB for $50 on release day | TCGplayer; Reddit, Sept 24 |
There's no official US MSRP to check against. The Pokémon Company doesn't publish one, so "list" here means the distributor list that Bill's Archive and The Lab TCG both report, not confirmed by Pokémon: $49.99 for the nine-pack box, and $59.99 for the 11-pack Pokémon Center version.

Best Buy and Pokémon Center charge list, when they sell at all
Best Buy: $49.99, not on sale yet
Best Buy's search results showed the Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box at $49.99 on October 16, release date November 6, marked "Coming Soon" and tagged "High demand product". The note under it reads: "This item is expected to sell out quickly. To improve your odds of getting one, we've updated our reservation process." The product page itself blocked our reader, so we can't tell you what that process is or what the limit will be.
The one hint is secondhand. ptcg.news, citing the PokemonRestocks tracker, says Best Buy "may drop invite-only access for Delta Reign Booster Boxes or other products in the coming months". That's a tracker's reading, not a Best Buy statement. Still, Best Buy was the one big store we read asking list for the nine-pack box, so we'd keep its product page saved and check it in release week.
Pokémon Center's preorders sold out on September 30
Pokémon Center opened Delta Reign preorders on September 30 behind its virtual queue, and Bill's Archive reports the first wave "sold out within hours on both the UK and US Pokémon Center stores". The r/PKMNTCGDeals thread "Pokemon Center Queue is up" went up at 11:47 a.m. Eastern that day and drew 562 comments. Its top reply, from u/Touchlamp with 24 points, wanted a smaller cap: "if its so short stocked. They should limit it to 1 ETB per order. Double the people getting them."
The doubling only works if every buyer took the full allowance. The US limits PokeBeach reported were two Pokémon Center boxes, one Booster Bundle and one Booster Box per customer, and in the same thread u/Constant-Dig-1067 (13 points) reported checking out with exactly that. We found no stock count from Pokémon Center, so there's no way to check how many more people a one-box cap would have reached.
What's left there is thin. Pokémon Center's support page still lists its 11-pack box, the six-pack Booster Bundle and the 36-pack Booster Display Box shipping in early November, but that's a shipping table, not a stock count. A later queue, on October 15, carried 30th Celebration mini tins, going by the r/PKMNTCGDeals post listing its links, and no Delta Reign item was in it. Delta Reign itself reaches stores on November 6.
Pokémon Center writes its rules down, and they still apply if the box comes back. From its support pages:
- Preorders take a credit or debit card only, since "Gift cards, Apple Pay and PayPal cannot be used for preorders." The FAQ says both "please place separate orders for each preorder item" and that you "may order it with other preorder items with the same release date". What it rules out is "a single order that contains both a preorder and non-preorder item". Your card isn't charged until the order ships, and you can only cancel before it's processed.
- In the queue, "Do not refresh your browser or move away from the page." Extra tabs, alternate links and workarounds "will not help you bypass the virtual queue", and a place in line doesn't guarantee stock. Skip the VPN.
- Purchase limits are "displayed on the product page." Pokémon Center's product pages blocked our reader, so the Delta Reign numbers above are PokeBeach's, not ones we read on Pokémon Center.
- Invite Only is the old Early Access program. Selected newsletter subscribers in the US, Canada and the UK get a single-use link that expires. The criteria aren't published, and extra email addresses don't raise your odds.
Restocks are the soft spot. Pokémon Center support "does not have information on when or if out of stock items will be restocked." Pokémon's own support page, last updated May 26, says it'll keep reprinting short products for retailers "including Pokémon Center", without dates.
In the September r/PokemonTCG thread "Has anyone actually managed to get 30th at MSRP?", which drew 486 comments, the top reply, from u/Kickflip_Supreme with 174 points, named one source:
That was 30th Celebration. For Delta Reign, Pokémon Center's turn came and went within hours, and a miss is expensive. On October 16 TCGplayer's market price for the Delta Reign Pokémon Center box was $451.57, 7.5 times its list, though on only 25 sales in three months. We'd treat that as a thin market, not a fair value.
Big stores charge over list, even when you win a turn
Target and GameStop
Target's Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box page showed $59.99 and "Out of stock" on October 16. That's $10 over list, or $6.67 a pack against $5.55. Behind the page, Target's product data tags it "New At Target", says "This item cannot be returned", and sets its purchase limit at 1.
u/MaDWaSTeD (8 points) put it bluntly in that September thread: "Technically? No. Target is over msrp." It's right on the number, and we'd still buy at Target's price, since $10 over list beats the open market by a long way.
GameStop lists the same box at $89.99, or $85.49 with a paid Pro membership. Its "Fair Play" panel caps each account, though the number didn't render in the page text we could read. At $89.99 you're paying $40 over list, $10.00 a pack.
TCGplayer's market price that day was $118.88, so even GameStop's sticker sits $28.89 under what the box trades for. The premium still sells: the same GameStop page showed "400+ Purchased Recently".
Walmart's drawings, Amazon's invites and Costco
Walmart runs drawings. You enter during an hour-long window, and if you're picked "The sale will go through automatically using your saved card details." Walmart doesn't publish the odds. Wargamer, covering the October 7 drawing, said plainly: "We don't know the odds of getting picked."
The prices matter more than the odds. On October 16 Walmart's drawing page showed only closed drawings, all ended October 14, and no Delta Reign item. Three 30th Celebration listings in them:
| Walmart drawing item | Drawing price | List price | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booster Bundle, 2 | $79.94 | $53.88 | +48% |
| Pokémon ex Box, Sylveon and Greninja | $69.94 | $43.98 | +59% |
| Knock Out Collection, 4 | $34.98 | $39.96 | $4.98 under |
Winning a drawing isn't the same as paying list. Before you enter, check the price against list, because the charge goes through on its own. One commenter in the 30th thread did win a Walmart drawing, for a Tech Sticker Collection, and got nothing on release day.
Amazon's version is an invitation. You press Request Invitation on the product page, and if you're picked you get an email and a timer to pay. Amazon says "The number of invitations to purchase will be based on the number of in-stock items", and you get one request per item.

The invite tells you nothing about price. Mashable reported on October 15 that Amazon's invite for the 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box was $159.99, a box Amazon had once listed for preorder at $89.99. TCGplayer's market price for it the next day was $132.11, so the invite asked $27.88 more than the open market. We'd decline an invite like that.
For Delta Reign, ptcg.news reports from the same tracker that every product has an Amazon Auto Buy link, where Prime members set a price limit and a quantity and can stick to items sold and shipped by Amazon. If you use it, set the limit at list: the worst case is then no box, not a $159.99 one.
Costco isn't a route we could price. On October 16 its search for "pokemon elite trainer box" returned one result, a Kayou K-Pop Demon Hunters card set, and "pokemon delta reign" turned up a $459.99 Pokémon jigsaw puzzle and Delta bathroom faucets.
Your local store is where we'd start
Local game stores set their own rules, and some run lotteries. A TCGplayer writer described a 30th Celebration release party with "nearly 100 people gathered for a lottery ticket system to purchase at MSRP." We'd pick a store with tickets over one with a line, since a ticket doesn't reward whoever shows up at 5 a.m.
Walk-ins can work too. u/KomedyKat (27 points) wrote in the 30th thread: "I walked into an LGS around 2pm on release day and got 1 ETB for $50. Haven't seen anything outside of that." That's the list price, and the reply says how rare it was. We'd read it as luck, not a plan.
For Delta Reign the store route starts early. Select Play! Pokémon Stores start selling the Build & Battle Box on October 24, 13 days before release, and our Delta Reign prerelease guide covers what's in it and how the events run. Ask your store now how it'll allocate the release: lottery, preorder list or first come. If it lets you open a box at the counter, our resealed ETB checklist covers what to look for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you still preorder Delta Reign at Pokémon Center?
Only if it restocks. Preorders opened on September 30 and the first wave sold out within hours, Bill's Archive reports, and Pokémon Center support says it has no information on when or if sold-out items come back. If they do, pay by credit or debit card; preorder items with the same release date can share one order.
What is the Pokémon Center purchase limit?
For the Delta Reign preorders, PokeBeach reported two Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Boxes, one Booster Bundle and one Booster Box per customer on the US store, as cited by Bill's Archive. Pokémon Center sets a limit per product, shows it on that product's page, and its queue page asks you to stick to it.
Our read: your local store first, Best Buy second
The call: start with your local store's prerelease and release plan, keep Best Buy's listing saved, and treat Pokémon Center as a restock lottery now that its preorders are gone.
In order, we'd try the local store, then Best Buy in release week, then Pokémon Center's queue if Delta Reign ever comes back, then Walmart or Amazon only if the price on the item is close to list. Target at $10 over is the fallback we'd take without much thought. GameStop's sticker we'd pay only if the alternative is the resale market.

We think waiting costs less than it feels like it will. Pokémon said in May it'd keep reprinting short products, and an Elite Trainer Box from a reprint is the same box: our 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box guide shows what's inside one, and the Pokémon TCG products guide compares cost per pack across box types. The Delta Reign set page tracks each product's pack count and list price.
What would change our mind: Pokémon Center putting Delta Reign back in a queue, or Target restocking the box at list instead of $59.99, would move that store up the order. Best Buy opening its sale above list would move it down.
