Are Reverse Holo Pokémon Cards Worth Anything? 764 Priced

We priced 764 reverse holos from six 2025 and 2026 sets on TCGplayer. The plain ones are worth cents, about double the regular card. A Master Ball on the foil changes that, and so does a 2002 set symbol.

Chart of three reverse holo prices on TCGplayer on Oct 21, 2026: a $0.21 median for plain reverse holos from Pitch Black and Perfect Order, a $9.24 median for Master Ball Pattern cards, and $1,941.66 for a Lightly Played Legendary Collection Gengar reverse holo

Most reverse holo Pokémon cards are worth pocket change. We priced every common, uncommon and rare from Pitch Black and Perfect Order on TCGplayer on October 21, 2026, 153 cards in all, and not one reverse holo reached $1. The median was $0.21, about double the same card's regular printing.

The exceptions are real, though, and you can spot them by eye. Master Ball Pattern reverse holos from three Scarlet & Violet sets had a $9.24 median that day. And a Legendary Collection reverse holo Gengar, from the 2002 set where reverse holos started, had a $1,941.66 market price in Lightly Played. Here's where the line falls, and what to do with the rest of the pile.

What a reverse holo is, and what the plain ones go for

Coded Yellow's history of the patterns defines it as a "parallel holofoil card": the artwork is printed flat and the rest of the card shines, the reverse of a regular holo rare. "Reverse Holo cards first appeared in 2002 with the release of the Legendary Collection expansion set," it notes, and they carry the same numbers as the regular cards. Our glossary entry for reverse holo has the short version.

The plain design is the Mega Evolution era's. Coded Yellow says the series launched in late 2025 with a new reverse holo that, "Instead of a specific pattern," has "a plain holographic sheen with a mirror-like border." Mega Evolution, Phantasmal Flames, Perfect Order, Chaos Rising and Pitch Black have it. We priced two of those sets, Pitch Black and Perfect Order: TCGplayer's Near Mint market price for both printings of every common, uncommon and rare. The other three aren't in the numbers below; the one common we checked from each sat in the same cents range on October 21 (Chaos Rising's Chespin reverse holo $0.18, Phantasmal Flames' Mimikyu $0.29, Mega Evolution's Ultra Ball $0.31). For rares the regular printing is the holofoil, so a rare's reverse holo is being compared with a regular holo.

The reverse foil roughly doubles a card that's worth a dime, and that's about all it does. A full run of Perfect Order's 79 reverse holos came to $17.04 at market, and Pitch Black's 74 to $17.67. Seven of the 153 were no dearer than the regular printing, Dewgong and Judge among them. Popular Pokémon still sell, though: Perfect Order's Gengar reverse holo moved 1,349 copies on TCGplayer in the month to October 21.

Our read: don't sell them one at a time, check the foil first

Don't list plain reverse holos from recent sets as single cards. TCGplayer's fee for a Level 1 to 4 seller is a 10.75% commission plus a transaction fee of 2.5% and $0.30, so a median reverse holo at $0.21 would cost about $0.33 in fees before you've bought a stamp. Even the Gengar at $0.78 leaves you $0.38. The way SetPulls values a pack says the same thing: our worth-opening pages count reverse holos as bulk at $0.

Bar chart of TCGplayer seller fees on one card sold alone on Oct 21, 2026: a $0.21 median plain reverse holo pays $0.33 in fees, the $0.78 Perfect Order Gengar pays $0.40, and a $9.24 median Master Ball Pattern card pays $1.52Bar chart of TCGplayer seller fees on one card sold alone on Oct 21, 2026: a $0.21 median plain reverse holo pays $0.33 in fees, the $0.78 Perfect Order Gengar pays $0.40, and a $9.24 median Master Ball Pattern card pays $1.52 Chart: SetPulls. So keep the reverse holos of Pokémon you like for the binder, or for a master set if you're building one. Sell the rest as a lot, the way bulk moves; our guide to selling Pokémon cards covers the platforms and what each one charges. Before anything goes in that lot, sort out two kinds of card: reverse holos with a ball pattern on the foil, and anything from Legendary Collection. Those are the next two sections.

Which reverse holos are worth money

Some sets print reverse holos with a pattern in the foil. Coded Yellow notes that Prismatic Evolutions, in January 2025, "included Reverse Holo cards with a Master Ball and a Poké Ball design," and that the Black Bolt and White Flare pair added a new version of both. Ascended Heroes, a January 2026 Mega Evolution-era set, has "two Reverse Holo cards for every regular Pokémon rather than the usual one": one with the Energy symbol in the foil, the other with a Love Ball, Quick Ball, Friend Ball, Dusk Ball or Team Rocket symbol. We priced the Energy Symbol Pattern ones; the ball versions aren't in the table. TCGplayer lists each pattern as its own card, so each one has its own price.

A pattern alone isn't enough. Ascended Heroes' Energy Symbol cards price like plain ones, and the Poké Ball Pattern cards sit only a little higher. It's the Master Ball that buyers pay for: in each of the three sets, the median Master Ball card cost 16 to 29 times the median Poké Ball card. Only two of the 211 were under $1, Sneasel and Exeggcute. If you opened any of those three sets, those are the reverse holos to check before you sell a stack.

Not everyone prices them that way. Asked in September on r/PokemonTCG what a Master Ball reverse holo usually goes for, u/TradingHigher answered: "On paper $2-3. Realistically its bulk and nothing." The first half fits a lot of them: 63 of the 211 were at $3 or less on October 21, 29 of those from Prismatic Evolutions, the set with the lowest Master Ball median ($5.43). The second half doesn't. 148 were above $3, and a $2 card sold alone still leaves more than $1.40 after TCGplayer's fees, more than any plain reverse holo we priced was worth.

Old reverse holos are a different market

Legendary Collection is where the cents stop applying. On September 10, someone posted a Gengar 11/110 reverse holo with damage on the back to r/PokemonCardValue and asked whether it had any value. The post reached 309 points and 67 comments, and the top answer, from u/2FigureBankAccount at 123 points, put a number on it: "Damaged condition RH LC Gengar market is just under $300."

That checks out. TCGplayer's market price for the Damaged reverse holo was $297.91 on October 21. The regular holo Gengar from the same set was $216.66 in Near Mint, so a damaged reverse holo was priced above a clean copy of the holo. Lightly Played reverse holos were at $1,941.66 and Moderately Played at $1,633.32.

These are thin markets, so read the numbers loosely. TCGplayer logged two Lightly Played reverse holo sales in the three months to October 21 and none in Damaged, so the $297.91 isn't fresh trades. The same commenter made two more points. A buyer who wants it "for binder or display gets an incredible looking display side without cost," and "someone would definitely grade this," because "PSA 1s are highly sought after." In a later reply, the same commenter conceded that "PSA may not, other services might." Our PSA, CGC and BGS fee comparison has what grading costs. Another reply just joked: "Business in the front, Party in the back…"

If you've got an old binder, our guide on how to check a Pokémon card's value walks through matching the printing and condition on TCGplayer. That matters more here than anywhere: a Lightly Played reverse holo Gengar cost about nine times a Near Mint regular holo of the same card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need reverse holos to complete a master set?

Yes. A master set is every version of every card in a set, and that includes the reverse holo of nearly every card. A complete set is smaller: one copy of each numbered card. SetPulls checklists count the complete set, so their totals leave reverse holos out.
