Storm Emeralda Booster Box: Import or Wait for Delta Reign?

Japan's Storm Emeralda is Delta Reign with fewer cards, 113 to at least 140, and its box has fallen by almost half since July. Buying one from a US seller beats importing it yourself; Delta Reign's English box only makes sense at list.

A Storm Emeralda booster box cost $93.49 with free shipping from a US seller on TCGplayer on October 20. Shipping one from Japan yourself comes to at least $103.17 once Japan Post's EMS rate and the US duty on Japanese goods are added, before the service fee Zonos or SafePackage charges for prepaying that duty, which Japan Post now requires, and before any proxy fee.

Storm Emeralda came out in Japan on July 31, 2026. Delta Reign, its English counterpart, arrives November 6 with at least 140 cards by Bill's Archive's count (Pokémon says "over 135") to Storm Emeralda's 113, and its box was $239.95 on presale. Below: our verdict, what each route costs, how the Japanese box price has moved, and what you give up by not waiting. For how Japanese and English packs differ in general, see our Japanese vs English Pokémon cards guide.

Our verdict on the Storm Emeralda booster box

If you want Storm Emeralda, buy it from a US seller, and read the listing title first. The cheapest standard listing on October 20 was $93.49 delivered. Every listing below that price was a Korean box, a Chinese box from a different set, or a minimum order of two or four boxes.

Don't import a single box yourself. At Japan's going rate of ¥9,800, EMS to the US and the duty put one box at $103.17 before the Zonos or SafePackage fee. Two boxes in one parcel come to $94.64 each before that fee, still not under the US seller.

Wait for Delta Reign only if you want English cards. Its box lists at $161.64, or $0.45 a card, and the US presale price of $239.95 works out to $0.67 a card, more than Storm Emeralda's $0.62 from a US seller.

What would change our mind

If the yen weakens past about ¥175 to the dollar, or a Japanese store you trust ships two boxes for less than EMS, importing starts to pay. And if Delta Reign's presale falls toward list before November 6, waiting becomes the better buy for anyone who reads English cards.

From a US seller. TCGplayer's Storm Emeralda box page had 34 listings for a US address at 03:22 UTC on October 20. The cheapest at a normal price was $93.49 with free shipping, the same as the page's Most Recent Sale. The cheaper ones need a close look: $74.86 bought a "[KOREAN] Storm Emeralda Booster Box Sealed", $44.88 a "[CHINESE] Gem Volume 6 Booster Box", and $92.49 required a four-box order.

Importing it yourself. Japan's market for a sealed box was ¥9,800 on October 20, the 48-hour median on tradecard.jp, with Akihabara stores buying at ¥9,000 to ¥10,000 the day before. Japan Post's EMS table charges ¥5,300 to the US for a parcel up to 1kg and ¥7,900 up to 2kg. At the October 19 reference rate of ¥158.24 to the dollar, one box plus EMS is $95.42.

Then there's duty. A USTR notice sets the total on products of Japan at 12.5% where the normal rate is lower, starting July 24, 2026, and playing cards (HTS 9504.40) normally enter duty-free. On a ¥9,800 box that's $7.74. Added before rounding ($95.4247 plus $7.7414), the total is $103.17.

Treat that as the floor. Since October 15, Japan Post requires every parcel to the US, gifts included, to be registered in advance through Zonos or SafePackage with the estimated duty prepaid, and it warns that "service fees will apply irrespective of whether the item is duty-free." Zonos shows its clearance fee in its app rather than on its site, and charges it per parcel, so two boxes in one parcel split it. We also assumed one box fits under 1kg and left out proxy or forwarding fees, which only add to the import side.

One buyer who's done it warns about the costs. u/Marshmallio, who used a Japanese proxy service to buy Pokémon cards, posted on r/PokemonTCG in August so others wouldn't "get jumpscared with way higher shipping costs than expected after they order the items to the warehouse." Consolidating the parcel doesn't shrink the duty, they wrote: "the customs fees still apply for each individual item." They still called Japanese proxies "a relatively affordable option compared to the US market for Pokémon cards." For one sealed Storm Emeralda box, our numbers come out the other way.

The Storm Emeralda box has fallen by almost half since July

On TCGplayer, the Japanese box's market price was $179.77 in the week of July 27 and $93.34 in the week of October 19, down 48%. The page counted 2,548 sold over three months, with a high sale of $228.00 and a low of $90.75. The fall hasn't stopped: on tradecard.jp, Japan's own price was down ¥1,200, or 10.9%, over 30 days.

Even ¥9,800 is above Japan's list price. Pokémon sells a Storm Emeralda pack for ¥200, and the box holds 30, so a box at list would be ¥6,000; the market price works out to ¥327 a pack. Anyone importing pays that market price, then shipping and duty on top.

What you give up by not waiting for Delta Reign

Delta Reign is the larger set. Bill's Archive counts at least 140 cards, against Storm Emeralda's 113, and Pokémon's own page says "over 135," so some English cards won't exist in the Japanese set at all. Pokémon's Japanese site also says Storm Emeralda packs have no Basic Energy, and each pack holds 5 cards to Delta Reign's 10. If you play in English tournaments or want the English chase cards, Storm Emeralda isn't a substitute.

The trade runs the other way on price. Delta Reign's box was $239.95 on presale on October 20, 48% over its $161.64 list price, for a box TCGplayer estimates will ship on November 6. Best Buy listed it at $160.99 on October 17.

What collectors are doing in the meantime

Under a Storm Emeralda binder page on r/PokemonTCG on October 12, u/OscarMichaelMyers (28 points) wrote "This set is gonna be sick. If I can find any." Three hours later u/BlindSquantch (6 points) replied:

"Japanese is easily available. I've been just collecting that since English is so impossible to find." Three minutes later, OscarMichaelMyers asked the obvious next question: "Where do you buy from?" BlindSquantch answered 17 minutes after that: "Reliable sellers on eBay or Pokeninjapan website," adding that despite "some complaints about Pokeninjapan online," they'd "had good luck with them and they ship fast straight from Japan." Later that day another reader pointed out the English set isn't out yet, and BlindSquantch said they meant English sets in general. We didn't price those sellers, so for a single Storm Emeralda box the answer from our numbers is still a US seller on TCGplayer, with the listing title checked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Japanese Pokémon cards pay a US tariff in 2026?

Yes, if they're a product of Japan. A USTR notice published July 28, 2026 sets the total duty on Japanese goods at 12.5% where the normal rate is lower, and playing cards (HTS 9504.40) normally enter duty-free, so they pay the whole Japan rate. Under Japan Post's rules, the sender prepays that duty through Zonos or SafePackage before the parcel leaves Japan, so nothing is collected at your door.
